Fredriksborg is located in the middle of history. The fortress was part of the Vaxholm Line, which has protected the capital since the 1500s. The fortress was considered the country's strongest fortress when it was completed in 1735. Oxdjupstornet and Strandverket were armed with 86 cannons and up to 2000 men were to man the facility if needed and also withstand a siege.
Guided tours of Fredriksborg are available every opening day 1 May – 30 September. At 5 pm in Swedish and at 6 pm in English. October – April, Kaponjären, the cannon tower by the water, is shown. Groups, conferences, etc. can book their own time.
